When i came to the ivory garden
I was already to late
All the buliding where set ablaze
The ground shook
The children cried
And with the smoke rising from the chaos in the streets,
I heard the last thing a thousand voices ever said:
"The end was always near"
And they all laid down
And no one moved
It went quiet in the ivory garden
So quiet
I looked for hours
For someone still with me
But when my kness finally sent dust through the air
I had already come to terms with the fact
I was alone again
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Then to my astonishment
They stared moving again
And when a bell rang somewhere far away
A thousand voices started speaking again
I know is should have been glad
I should have been overjoyed
But when they noticed me
I just looked
Asking why
"Oh, we do this every year
otherwise there's nothing to do around here
We've got no famine
no disease, no violence
no wars
nothing that challenges us as a society
So we pretend like it's the end of the world once every year
everyones in on it
it spices things up a bit
and the childern love it"
I walked away from him
With one more thing lingering in my mind
If they're all just pretending,
Playing
Aren't they all children?
I guess that's a question for the ages
In the ivory garden
